Server and log

The site runs on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany (Nuremberg data centre). For every request the web server stores: requested domain, IP address, time, requested path, status code and amount of data sent. This serves operation and security (debugging, preventing abuse); the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The log is deleted automatically after 14 days.

No cookies, no tracking

The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising services. Only if you pick light or dark does your browser remember that choice (localStorage, key “thema”). It is never sent anywhere and can be removed by clearing the site data in your browser; the basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG.

Contact form

What you enter in the form (name, message and, optionally, your email address) is received by a small program on the same Hetzner server (see above). It checks the input for abuse (hidden field, time taken, length, number of links) and briefly keeps it in a queue on that server. From there it goes through an encrypted tunnel to my own mail service, which runs on my own hardware in Germany and passes it on as an email to my mailbox (see “Email”). No third-party service is involved in the form, and you are not added to any mailing list. The copy on the server is deleted automatically after 14 days at the latest. The program stores neither your IP address nor any details about your browser; the IP address appears only in the server log (see above). I use the data only to reply to you; the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in answering enquiries and preventing abuse). The email address is optional; without it I simply cannot reply to you.

Email

The message from the form arrives as an email in my mailbox, as does anything you send me directly. My mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail); my mail service hands the form message over through Google’s interface. I process your address and message to reply (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). I delete messages once they are dealt with and no retention duty applies.

Links to GitHub, Hugging Face, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit or Discord are plain links. Only when you click one do you leave this site; the privacy policies of those providers apply there.

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability (Art. 15–18 and 20 GDPR) and the right to object to processing under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR). An email to the address above is enough. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg.
